K4 (Kindergarten 4) - April McReynolds
April is a 2002 graduate of The University of Alaska Fairbanks with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. Though her professional path has been largely in the field of social work, Mrs. McReynolds sensed God calling her to work with children, proactively equipping the next generation to love God. She comes from a military family and has moved 14 times! She has been married over 2o years to her high school sweetheart, Michael, who faithfully served for 24 years in the United States Army. They have a "fur baby" named Manchester. One of her favorite quotes comes from Neil Postman: “Children are the living message we send to a time we will not see.” She is excited to partner with parents and CCCS to love, guide, and pray for this next generation of leaders.
K4 Aide - Sarah Lane
Sarah graduated from CNU in 2011 with a BS in Biology and BA in Classical Studies. She’s been married to Chris for 12 years and together they have two sons, Asher and Calvin. The family attends By Grace Community Church where Chris serves as a deacon and Sarah serve in several capacities. In her spare time she enjoys reading, cross stitch, cooking and baking. Sarah is gifted in the details and loves to serve God by serving others.
K5 (Kindergarten) - Erin Machie
Erin is a Hampton native and holds a BA in English and MA in Teaching from James Madison University. She taught middle school language arts for six years, and then became a full-time mom. Erin is married to her best friend Michael, and they have four wonderful daughters. She enjoys running, cycling, and teaching fitness classes, cooking and eating, any and all family activities, going to the beach, and camping in the mountains. Erin has taught preschool classes at her church and led both preschoolers and adults in Bible study for many years. She has a deep love for God and His Word.
Reading Specialist & K5 Aide - Penny Sleichter
Penny is a graduate of Mid Atlantic Christian University with a BS in Christian Education in the Church. She spent 13 years in different children's ministry positions at churches in Hampton Roads. Penny has worked at CCCS as the K5 Aide for 4 years and this year is excited to jump into the Reading Specialist role. She and her husband, Jason, have been married for 15 years and have two wonderful kids, Luke and Lucy.
First Grade - Erika Speight
Erika is a graduate of Liberty University with a BS in Education. She has a variety of experience working with children from teaching preschool, serving the children and youth at church, and being “auntie” to the many kids she has cared for in her home. She also homeschooled her two wonderful children, Jude and Noa, until 2025. Erika truly enjoys helping kids develop a joy for learning and seeing biblical connections in the world around them. She married her sweet husband, Paul, in 2008 and their family worships at Hampton Roads Fellowship where Paul serves as a pastor. Erika enjoys spending time with family and friends, organizing, playing board games, and cheering her kids on in their latest endeavors.
Second Grade - Doris McDonnell
Doris graduated summa cum laude from Colorado Christian University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Bible. She grew up in Germany, Mexico, and Arizona as a daughter of Wycliffe Bible Translators. She has been married to Thomas for 20 years, and they have seven children. Doris spent the last thirteen years homeschooling her children using the Charlotte Mason Method, and is excited to join the CCCS community and continue teaching. Doris loves are literature, language, writing, history, art, photography, cooking, G.K. Chesterton, Shakespeare, and watching little learners blossom! She writes a column for Commonplace Quarterly Magazine and her favorite Dickens character is Esther Summerson.
Third Grade - Tracey Ferguson
Tracey has a BS in Biblical Studies (1995) and an M.A.T. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (1996) from Columbia International University in Columbia, SC. She taught in Christian schools for eleven years before becoming certified as a reading specialist. Prior to coming to CCCS, she worked with individuals as an early intervention instructor for five years. Tracey has two college-age children who graduated from Summit Christian Academy. She serves on the children’s ministry team at Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Church where her husband, Jeff, is the senior pastor. She’s been called a “Jill”-of-all-trades because she takes her hobbies—roller skating, thrifting, baking Keto cakes, and almost anything that does not involve sitting for extended periods of time—to a “whole new level”. She is thrilled to be teaching at CCCS!
Fourth Grade - Tara Hayes
Tara is a graduate of Christopher Newport University with a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies. She married her husband Matt in 2013 and they have 3 beautiful children named Levi, Lily and Ella, who all attend CCCS. Tara taught preschool for a year before having their son, Levi. Since then, she has cared for many children in her home, was a caretaker for her father while he suffered from Alzheimer’s, and served as the deaconess of Children’s Ministry at her local church, Hampton Roads Fellowship. Tara enjoys exploring new places, eating delicious food, playing games with family and friends and reading good books. Over the last 3 years she has been a substitute teacher at CCCS and has absolutely loved it. Tara has always felt a calling to work with children and is so excited for this next adventure in 4th grade!
Fifth Grade - Laurie Kincaid
Laurie is a graduate of Perdue University and The College of William and Mary. She and her husband Rex have been married for 40 years. They have three wonderful grown children and three grand children (so far). Laurie grew up in Indiana and although she lives near the ocean now, she’d rather spend quiet days reading and paddle boarding on a lake. Laurie taught in the public school system for over 25 years before making her way to CCCS. On the weekends you can find her walking the Greensprings trail, reading, boating on Lake Anna, and enjoying time with her grandkids. Laurie and her husband worship and serve at Williamsburg Community Chapel.
Sixth Grade - Sara Winant
For as long as she can remember, Sara has wanted to be a teacher, and God’s faithfulness has been continually present before her as she begins her sixteenth year of teaching! Her first four years of teaching were at an alternative school in Newport News teaching 7th and 8th grade science, and all of her remaining years have been spent at CCS and then CCCS, having joined CCCS from its beginning. She met her husband, Matt, at CNU, where they both earned their undergraduate and Masters in Teaching degrees. They were married in 2012 and have been living in Newport News ever since. They have two beautiful sons, Joshua and Caleb, who keep them on their toes! Joshua is in second grade at CCCS and Caleb is starting in K4. They attend By Grace Community Church, where Matt is a deacon and Sara serves in several capacities. Matt also serves as the soccer director for CCCS. Sara loves to be creative, to read, and to organize. Her favorite things to teach are science and reading, but has a special soft spot for grammar and math! She has taught sixth grade for 10 years and can't imagine teaching anything else as she absolutely adores this age and all of the things she gets to teach!Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
