Our Program

For many of us, there is a traditional way we view the school day -- roughly 8-3 every day , with a few hours of homework each evening. While this traditional schedule has been a great blessing for many of us, families and leadership at CCCS have sought to think differently about schooling and how we can teach all that is needed to have an “excellent education,” while being willing to ask the question, “can we do this differently?”

Our desire to promote the family, specifically, parent’s role in the education of our children, is what drives us to do what we do. We want to be a tool in the hands of parents as they seekto educate and raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. We see each child as an image bearer of God and are, therefore, open to students with varying backgrounds and learning differences. We all yearn for more time with our children; seasons pass so quickly. We see parent involvement and community activities as essential to a child’s development. We think a classical education should be available to all students.  Towards that end, we have made some very conscious choices when it comes to schedule and cost.

We offer a four day a week, half-day program from K4 - 12th grade. We intentionally keep our classes sizes small to allow a teacher the ability to foster community as well as allow for one-on-one instruction as needed. During these educational hours, all core subjects will be taught. Parents should expect that they will have some work with their students outside of the classroom to help reinforce what has been taught (reading, math facts, etc); however, parents will not be, nor should expect to be, introducing new subject matter. Our academic program is more like a traditional school, while our weekly schedule provides the flexibility and time of a homeschool setting. Due to the small size of our classes, some of the upper grades may join together for particular subjects, such as history, science, and bible. We value older students and younger students working together, so we work to provide opportunities for our students to benefit from one another in the classroom setting, as well as on the playground!

Latin electives will be offered in the afternoons for those who wish to incorporate this traditional aspect of Classical Education.

Homeschool Requirement

Every family enrolled in our program will be required to register with the State of Virginia as a Homeschool family. You can find the required form for Hampton here, York County here, and Newport News here. You can also use a generic form provided by the Home Educators Association of Virginia here. CCCS will supply the necessary “progam of study” needed to complete the application as well as the evidence of progress at the end of the year.

Should I register my Kindergartener?

All classes at CCCS utilize a uniform dress code several reasons. First, we spend much of our adult lives wearing a uniform of some type - to identify us with our place of work and to set us apart for the work of the day. We see value in our students preparing for the day, even down to their clothing. Second, we are here to learn, not to worry about clothing. Our desire is to remove as much clothing distraction as possible for students in the classroom. Third, they can make school mornings easier. Many parents have seen the benefit of fewer choices in the morning, allowing a more pleasant and stress-free morning. Uniform guidelines can be found in the Parent Handbook
